Here's another wonderful and mesmerizing Leonard Cohen song that was not included in his 2008-2009 tour, The Guests. The video is from 1979 of a live performance in the studio, well, the vocals were live. A little video hiccup here and there but a gorgeous performance of a very dressed-down Leonard, reminiscent of how he looked in Rasky's documentary. Thanks much to a1000kissesdeep, a Cohen connoisseur, for uploading.

NEWS: Re-release of Death of a Lady's Man
Clash Music reports that Leonard's book of poetry, Death of a Lady's Man, is scheduled to be re-released. This is great news. I never have been able to name my favorite Leonard Cohen song or even favorite album, but Death of a Lady's Man is easily my favorite book. And my favorite poem, "Slowly I Married Her." Very fortunately, there is an in-depth TV interview with Leonard where he reads from the book and discusses that time in his life. The interviewer is the renowned Patrick Watson interviewing Leonard for the CBC program Authors. To my great delight and awe, Leonard reads the poem "Slowly I Married Her" during the interview. There is no counter on the videos, but the reading of the poem comes at the end of Part II (move the "seek" icon just past the bottom right CBC circle logo on the screen). But do take the time to watch the entire interview, one of the best there is.

Leonard Cohen Re-Issues Book
'Death Of A Lady's Man' to be re-printed
Music Posted by Robin Murray Wed, 21/04/2010
Canadian songwriting legend Leonard Cohen is set to re-issue his book 'Death Of A Lady's Man'.
Leonard Cohen already had a literary background long before he released his debut album. Studying English Literature at university his experiments in prose and poetry won his acclaim across the globe.
Sitting at the forefront of the Canadian Literary Renaissance, Leonard Cohen's early work is taught in schools. Re-issued to placate the demands of fans, the singer is now set to focus on a lesser known aspect of his canon.
Released in 1978, 'Death Of A Lady's Man' accompanied the album of the same name. [Marie's note: Not exactly the same name. The album is "Death Of A Ladies' Man"] A collection of poetry and prose it stems from one of Leonard Cohen's most productive periods and is a good stepping stone between his early work and the 80s bluster of 'I'm Your Man'.
Deeply influential by Symbolist poetry, Leonard Cohen is capable to matching the mundane to the transcendental. Moving between poetry and prose 'Death Of A Lady's Man' is not without its faults but emphasises the sheer versatility of his writing.
Centring on love and all its faults, as usual Leonard Cohen's writing is dominated by religious imagery which glimpses cities from Jerusalem to Rome.
Now a new generation of fans can explore this period of Cohen's work. 'Death Of A Lady's Man' is set to be re-issued in hardback this May.
Available via Andre Deutsch publishing the new edition is the latest in a series of re-printings which have shed new light on Leonard Cohen's dual career as a singer and a writer.
'Death Of A Lady's Man' will be released in May.
