YOUTUBES: Iodine + new photos posted by Lian Lunson

messalina79 assists in our continued quest to review songs that did not make it onto the set lists of Leonard Cohen's 2008-09 tour. Today we have the audio of Iodine from the Paris concert in 1979. All songs from Death of a Ladies' Man are worth a second listen and this is certainly one of those. It is quite a catchy tune mixed with Leonard's amazing lyrics. Thanks messalina79 for your continued generosity.

And a little PS: Lian Lunson posted five new photos on her Facebook page from her work on the documentary I'm Your Man. The black and white photo is particularly stunning.

YOUTUBES: Poems and The Stranger Song

As promised, these are the last four parts of the Leonard Cohen Beautiful Losers bootleg. Leonard Cohen appeared at the 92nd Street YM-YWCA, New York City NY, on February 14, 1966 where he reads from Beautiful Losers and then he reads these three poems, All You in White (The Spice-Box of Earth), For E.J.P. (Flowers for Hitler) and You Have the Lovers (The Spice-Box of Earth) and then sang The Stranger Song. Thanks again to JacquesBrel11.

PRESS RELEASE: See Leonard's Notebooks

I received this press release this morning. This is quite tantalizing.

YOUTUBES: Reading of Beautiful Losers 1966

One of my favorite Leonard Cohen bootlegs is his reading from Beautiful Losers. The reading took place at the 92nd Street YM-YWCA, New York City NY, February 14, 1966. It is mesmerizing and overwhelming in its intensity. If you don't have time to listen to all nine youtubes, at least listen to part 7 as Leonard reads the section, "God is alive, magic is afoot." Many thanks to JacquesBrel11 who uploaded this wonderful material. The quality on the over 40-year-old tape is amazing. Someone taped Leonard's reading for keeps. Tomorrow, I will put up the final four segments of the reading which includes three poems and Leonard singing The Stranger Song.

YOUTUBES: Dress Rehearsal Rag

Continuing our examination of songs not included on Leonard Cohen's 2008-09 tour, we have a song that isn't likely to be featured on the 2010 tour either, Dress Rehearsal Rag. This version (audio only) dates all the way back to 1968 when Leonard performed it in the BBC studio. Leonard explains why he rarely performs this song in the intro and I guess I can understand. But the high quality and great performance still produce the longing to hear it one more time. Thanks to our vintage youtube hero, messalina79, for this one. And goodness, the photo alone should make your curious.
